Iman Vellani, star of Ms. Marvel and The Marvels, has compared Kamala Khan's role in the Marvel Zombies series to that of Frodo Baggins from the Lord of the Rings film series.
In a new interview with The Direct, Vellani confirmed she has finished recording her lines for the upcoming Disney+ Marvel Zombies series, which will feature undead versions of Captain America, Scarlet Witch, Captain Marvel, and many more in a story that will position her character (Kamala Khan) as a central figure.
"We've done the whole thing," Vellani said, sharing an update. "It was amazing. It was so much fun. And I love—there are a lot of cool characters in the Marvel Zombies show. And Kamala is kind of the center of the show. They described it to me, it's like, 'She's basically the Frodo of the story.' And I was like, 'That's amazing.'"
Much like the friends and foes Frodo meets along his way, Vellani shared her excitement over Kamala getting to mix and mingle with various Marvel characters as she battles against an ever-spreading zombie scourge alongside the likes of Yelena Belova, Kate Bishop, Red Guardian, Jimmy Woo, Death Dealer, and Shang-Chi.
"I get to interact and meet all these people along her journey," she explained. "And, yes, they're only the voices, and I don't get to hear their voices in real-time. But just, it's my fantasies, right? Like, knowing Kamala is going to interact with some really cool people, even if it's just animation, is so special in a lot of ways."
Vellani believes that character investment and superhero team-ups could put the MCU on the path to recapturing Avengers: Endgame levels of hype again, but audiences shouldn't count on seeing the original Avengers into the MCU fold as Chris Evans has not heard anything about bringing his Captain America back.
With or without the OG crew, the MCU is moving forward and branching out. Marvel Zombies is touting a TV-MA rating (equivalent to an R-rating for a film) with all the "gore and splatter you want from a Zombie show," which will no doubt have people champing at the bit to watch it. However, there is no release date yet.
