It’s official: Season 6 of What We Do in the Shadows will be its last.
Although production isn’t due to begin on the show’s sixth season until January, IGN has confirmed that it’s going to be the last time cameras roll on the hit horror mockumentary.
Fan reaction is going as well as you'd expect. “Nah waking up and seeing What We Do in the Shadows is ending,” said one fan on X/Twitter. “Three spits on the face for whoever decided this, best comedy show going right now, FX are the most devious bastards in Hollywood.”
“Ah fuck, the next season is going to be the last one for What We Do In the Shadows? That sucks, but I suppose it's better to go out strong instead of fading away,” said another fan. “I'll miss you, Jackie Daytona.”
“What am I supposed to do with my life when no more new what we do in the shadows?” said another fan.
What We Do in the Shadows is based on the 2014 film of the same name by Jermaine Clement and Taika Waititi. The TV shows stars Matt Berry as Laszlo Cravensworth, Natasia Demetriou as Nadja, and Kayvan Novak as Nandor the Relentless, a trio of gothic vampires who share a house along with Mark Prosch’s energy vampire, Colin Robinson.
They’re joined by Nandor’s familiar, Guillermo (Harvey Guillén), and with cameos from the likes of Mark Hamill, Doug Jones, and Kristen Schaal, the show has earned an impressive reputation.
Over the course of its five current seasons, What We Do in the Shadows has earned multiple Emmy nominations, as well as taking home a GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2022. Season 5 is currently up for Best Comedy Series at the Critics Choice Television Awards in January.
IGN’s What We Do in the Shadows Season 5 review gave it 8/10 and said: “Season 5 of FX’s What We Do in the Shadows delivers on last season’s cliffhanger ending, changing up character dynamics in a way that keeps the supernatural sitcom fresh. The first four episodes are chaotic, gore-soaked, and packed with great gags, allowing the wild cast of characters to shine as they continue to discover new aspects of both the supernatural and mundane worlds around them.”
