Deadpool's history is a tapestry of frayed ends. Cancer drove Marvel's Merc With a Mouth to the same Weapon X program that experimented on characters like Wolverine, Sabretooth and X-23, but it's tough cementing anything before that. Deadpool's memories are conflicting at best and unreliable at worst, with his past used for character development and throwaway gags alike. Admittedly, the Regenerating Degenerate’s Joker-style multiple-choice backstory has become part of the character's weird, twisted charm. But in the 30 years since Deadpool's debut, no dive into his potential past has been weirder or more twisted more than the first.
