Naruto is an inspiring shonen adventure about the power of friendship, the virtue of faith in oneself, and the rewards of honest, hard work. Most protagonists in Naruto embody these inspiring traits and ideals well, while the villains are the grim opposite. Shonen anime like Naruto tend to use despicable, gruesome villains to contrast sharply with the heroes, with Orochimaru being an excellent example. He may not have been Naruto Uzumaki's final or most powerful opponent, but Orochimaru was certainly one of the most depraved.
