Before Mario Kart cemented itself as Nintendo's flagship racing franchise, it once shared the spotlight with F-Zero. Unfortunately, Nintendo seems to have abandoned F-Zero, with the last entry in the series having been released in 2004 for the Game Boy Advance. In an interview with Video Games Chronicle, ex-Nintendo designer and former F-Zero producer Takaya Imamura speculated that the company saw Mario Kart's success and cheaper development, which led to the abandonment of the F-Zero franchise. However, F-Zero boasts a unique identity and gameplay style that makes it truly irreplaceable. No other entry demonstrates this more than the series' magnum opus: F-Zero GX.
