A little over three months after the Vision Pro was released, Apple officially confirmed releasing its mixed reality headset into international markets.
At WWDC 2024, Tim Cook revealed that the Vision Pro would be released in the following markets, starting with China, Japan, and Singapore on June 28. Followed Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the UK on July 12. Apple released the Vision Pro exclusively in the United States on February 2, 2024, making today's announcement the first time the headset will be available outside of the U.S.
The Vision Pro is the first major hardware category Apple has introduced since the unveiling of the first-generation Apple Watch in 2015. The international market rollout is good timing for the Vision Pro, which has reportedly been struggling to sell in the United States. In late April, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kou reported that the iPhone maker had slashed shipments of the Vision Pro due to low demand.
While there have been official citations on what is causing the low demand, many have been quick to criticize that Vision Pro's $3,500 price tag, which makes it a tough pill to swallow for the average consumer. Additional criticisms have also pointed to the uncomfortable fit and the device's battery performance, which leaves much to be desired.
In our review of the Apple Vision Pro, my colleague Seth Macy wrote: "Despite its absurd price tag, uncomfortable fit, and bummer battery life, the Apple Vision Pro is an absolutely incredible device that completely obliterated my skepticism and made me renew my vows to the cult of Apple."
