The Incredible Hulk has always been one of Marvel’s most complicated and tortured superheroes. While it might seem rather simple to understand the jade behemoth, the issue with understanding the Hulk is that he often cannot understand himself or his own emotions. The Hulk, by nature, is one of the most destructive and dangerous beings in the universe, a fact that he simultaneously hates and boasts about. Deep within the Hulk, through all of his anger and confusion, is the deep desire to be wanted. The Hulk craves companionship, yet always lets his wild moods get the better of him, thus putting him into a self-fulfilling prophecy of pain and heartache. Even the most lethal enemies pale in comparison to the Hulk's own inner turmoil. As upsetting as this may be to be considered for the Hulk, he has proclaimed very clearly that, for all of his wishes for friendship, he also thinks the very idea of working alongside others is completely stupid.
