The X-Men were built upon the backs of children. As problematic as that might sound, since their very first incarnation, the X-Men were comprised of mere teenagers. Radically different from more mature Marvel heroes like Captain America, Thor, and Iron Man, the X-Men are connected with the youthful zeitgeist, the effects of a world riddled with hatred and bigotry on its youngest citizens. Some young and some older, the X-Men have had an incredibly diverse roster over the years, but few have been younger or more troubled than Kitty Pryde, aka, Shadowcat.
