The Disney+ series Ahsoka is the first lead live-action role for the formerly animated character created by George Lucas and shaped by series creator Dave Filoni. The series is also the first one run exclusively by Filoni who made his storytelling bones in animation, first under Lucas for The Clone Wars and in the Disney era. Star Wars: Rebels was his first series without his former Jedi master, and the first entry in the Disney canon. While Ahsoka is clearly a sequel to Rebels, audiences do not need to watch the animated series to understand the live-action show, but it definitely helps.
