Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Man Noir series has cast New Girl and Fargo actor Lamorne Morris as a series regular, according to a Variety report.

The live-action project’s newest cast member will play Robbie Robertson, another face that might be familiar to longtime Spider-Man fans. In addition to bringing in more talent to its roster, the Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television series is now reportedly titled Spider-Noir. Its previous title was just Noir, so it looks like Sony and Amazon are looking to make its ties to the Spider-Man universe a bit clearer.

Morris is best known for the Fargo series and New Girl, but he’s made appearances across movies and TV for more than a decade. He played a role in 2018’s Game Night and 2020’s Bloodshot, too, but viewers might have also heard him in animated projects like American Dad!, The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, and Solar Opposites. As for his role in Spider-Noir, Variety was able to share a description of Robbie Robertson’s character.

“Driven, hard-working, and won’t take no for an answer,” the description says. “A dedicated journalist trying to make it with the odds stacked against him as a black professional in 1930s New York. He takes on riskier stories that no one else would touch in order to catch attention and a paycheck. He is willing to do whatever is necessary for his career.”

Spider-Noir was greenlit to swing into Amazon Prime Video and MGM+ in May. Cage will star following his appearance as Spider-Man Noir in Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse film. That project’s Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Amy Pascal, all returned to help develop Spider-Noir and are attached as producers. No release date has been revealed, but it’s expected to premiere domestically on MGM+, then globally on Prime Video.

“Noir tells the story of an aging and down on his luck private investigator (Cage) in 1930s New York,” an official description says, “who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero.”

Spider-Noir is still putting the pieces together. While we wait for Sony and Amazon to share more, you can read up on why we think Spider-Man Noir is not the hero Sony’s Spider-Verse needs. A list of every Marvel project in development can also be seen here.
