Matt Reeves' introduced a dark new take on the Dark Knight in 2022's The Batman. Robert Pattinson starred as the titular hero in the first of the stand-alone franchise that will exist as an Elseworlds story in James Gunn's DCU. The Batman won over fans with exciting new adaptations of comic book villains like The Riddler and Penguin that fit well in Reeves' new Gotham City. A sequel was greenlit well before James Gunn and Peter Safran's takeover of DC Studios, which left some fans wondering if they would still see more from Pattinson's Batman.
