If you are a subscriber to Twitter Blue and are tired of people mocking you for paying for a blue checkmark, you now have the option to toggle it on or off.
On X's Help Center page, the company confirmed Twitter Blue subscribers who do not want to have a visible blue checkmark on their profile, either because they are sick of all the memes of people making fun of people for "buying a blue check", or because they want to avoid becoming the butt of the joke, can toggle the verification on and off by going to their Profile customization settings.
Now, the verification checkmark is not the only thing that incentivizes people to opt-in for a Twitter Blue subscription, as the service includes other features, like the ability to edit tweets, post videos that are up to three hours long, set up an NFT as your profile picture, and the option to create a longer tweet, to name a few.
Nevertheless, the option to toggle the verification checkmark on and off is a bit odd, considering the blue checkmark is typically the feature marketed when trying to get new users to sign up for the service, as seen in the image below.
While Twitter verification was typically used for account recognition or credibility within a certain industry, after Elon Musk took over Twitter the social media platform pivoted to removing legacy verified checkmarks and then paywalled verification to anyone willing to subscribe annually or monthly to Twitter Blue, or if Musk just happened to like you and was kind enough to pay for your blue check.
