The biggest Google Pixel 8a upgrades over the Pixel 7a include a 120Hz OLED display, 7 years of guaranteed software and security updates, a larger 4500mAh battery, and on-device Google AI. The Pixel 8a boasts a great camera system, much better than other mid-priced cameras on the market. Google phones also come clean out of the box with no bloatware if they're not purchased from the carrier. The best thing for us deal hunters, of course, is that there is no price markup compared to the 7a.
Compared to the flagship $700 Pixel 8, the only significant differences to speak of is the build quality and the camera, both of which are obviously superior on the Pixel 8. Both phones have a 120Hz display with the same resolution and brightness (the Pixel 8 has a slightly bigger 6.2" size vs 6.1"), the same Google Tensor G3 processor and Titan M2 security coprocessor, the same RAM and storage capacities, dual SIM capabilities, and a USB charging port. They both also run Android 14 and boast 7 years of software updates. If you were on a budget and you didn't need the best camera out there, then the Pixel 8a is a much better value, especially with this deal.
We consider the Pixel phones to be one of the best phones out there. We haven't reviewed the Pixel 8a yet, but the Pixel 7a makes it in our list of best Android phones of 2024. We also rank the Pixel 8 as the best phone of 2024, topping even the iPhone 15.
