Gloomy color tones might dominate the Death Stranding 2 landscape, with its minimalist architecture and military shades. But by changing your suit color, you can inject more life to the places you visit.
There are plenty of customization options in this game when it comes to showing some personality, whether by changing your cap, backpack, or sunglasses. You can also change the porter suits Sam wears. While the game gives you some fixed patterns, you can customize the suit’s color.
Here’s how to change your suit color in Death Stranding 2.
How to unlock changing suit colors in Death Stranding 2
To unlock the option to paint your porter suit, you need to complete the “009 Deliver the Chiral Decontaminator to the Government’s Base” mission.
You’ll receive this assignment at the beginning of Episode 3 as you start to connect Australia to the Chiral network. Be prepared, as this mission requires you to traverse a long distance and pass through areas filled with BTs.
Get to The Government’s Base and deliver the cargo to Old Oz to finish the mission. Although completing the 009 mission unlocks the painting option, you only formally learn about it during the briefing of the next mission, the “010 [Elimination] Liberate the Western Environmental Observatory from the Brigands” order.
How to change suit color in Death Stranding 2
You can change your suit color by using the Customize Look menu after unlocking the function. While you have more than one suit pattern to wear in the game, in our experience, you can only change the color of the normal suit.
Select the normal suit and the option to change its color will appear. Unlocking the painting suit function gives you some colors to choose from, but you can increase the list options by raising your Connection Level with the Artist, a character you’ll meet in Mexico.
There are three ways to access the Customize Look menu:
- During the Final Preparations screen, before heading out to complete your next assignment
- At a Delivery Terminal, via a menu in the “Fabrication and Management” section
- Whenever you’re in a private room, by interacting with your suit hanging on the wall and choosing the “Customize Look” option.
