Hero Forge, purveyors of 3D-printed custom miniatures, are taking things a step further with a new line of customizable dice, suitable for Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, and other tabletop games. The California-based company, founded by video game industry veterans in 2014, launched a new crowdfunding campaign earlier this week on Kickstarter, and fans can reserve their place in line for the first batch of dice starting now through April 5.

Polygon recently had the chance to preview some of these dice, and the applications are really interesting. One of the sets shared includes two different sized d20s, each with the identical 3D-printed head of the character miniature embedded inside. Another sample included a full set of seven polyhedrals, each with a different bit of gear embedded within. Have trouble remembering which die to use for your longsword attacks? Just drop that longsword itself inside a d8 as a reminder.

According to a news release, any of the hundreds of different accessories available for Hero Forge miniatures can be embedded within these clear dice. So, too, can smaller creatures like familiars. The pricing is a bit steep, however, as a single die will set you back $39 during the campaign. The better deal seems to be the die and full-color miniature combo, which comes in at $75.
