As part of its Prime Day Counter-Sale, Lenovo has dropped the price on two of its popular Legion Tower 5 gaming PCs, both equipped with second generation variants of the RTX 4070 GPU. The RTX 4070 Super model is on sale for $1379.99 and the RTX 4070 Ti Super model is on sale for $1519.99 (after coupon code). These are excellent prices for gaming PCs that are both powerful enough to run games at higher resolutions like QHD, WQHD, DQHD, and even 4K.
Lenovo Legion Tower 5 RTX 4070 Super Gaming PC
This Lenovo Legion Tower 5 Gen 8 gaming PC is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 7700 CPU, GeForce RTX 4070 Super GPU, 16GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD. The AMD Ryzen 7 7700 CPU features a max boost clock of 5.3GHz with 8 cores, 16 threads, and a 32MB L3 cache. It's cooled by a beefy 120mm tower heatsink fan. In terms of gaming performance, the Ryzen 7 7700 is comparable to a 13th gen Intel Core i7 CPU, especially at higher resolutions where the GPU is the bottleneck. It's also a solid workstation chip for all but the most core-hungry applications.
The RTX 4070 Super video card is a significant improvement in performance over the 4070 (about 10-15% faster at 1440p according to our RTX 4070 Super review). It also has 12GB of VRAM compared to the 4070's 8GB. Like all RTX 40 series cards, the RTX 4070 Super supports DLSS 3.0, which gives it an edge in performance over AMD GPUs. This is an excellent GPU for 1080p or 1440p gaming. Although it is perfectly capable of running most games in 4K at 60fps (especially if DLSS is supported), going with an RTX 4070 Ti or higher - like the model below - will give you noticeable gains.
Lenovo Legion Tower 5 RTX 4070 Ti Super Gaming PC
This Lenovo Legion Tower 5 Gen 8 gaming PC is equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 7700 CPU, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super GPU, 32GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 1TB PCIe NVME SSD. You'll notice most of the specs are identical to the previous model, however you do get double the RAM on top of the more powerful GPU.
The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super is about 10% more powerful than the RTX 4070 Ti and 15-25% faster than the RTX 4070 Super. This is a great card for both 1440p and 4K gaming. In fact, if you intend to play games in 4K, we highly recommend paying the $140 difference for this model. It's powerful enough to run even newer demanding titles like Black Myth: Wukong and Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2. The VRAM count is upped to 16GB compared to the RTX 4070 Super's 12GB, which means it's a great economical option for AI apps like Stable Diffusion.
Why Choose Lenovo?
People like the fact that Lenovo does not use very many proprietary components in their rigs, so Legion gaming PCs are generally DIY upgrade-friendly with easily obtainable off-the-shelf components. Lenovo gaming rigs generally also utilize solid cooling, especially for the CPU, even if you opt for the less expensive air cooled option.
