Netflix has released the first trailer for Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen series, a spin-off drama from Ritchie’s 2020 movie of the same name.

It stars Theo James, who plays Eddie Horniman in his gangster era, alongside Kaya Scodelario, Giancarlo Esposito, Vinnie Jones, Daniel Ings, Joely Richardson, Peter Serafinowicz, and Ray Winstone.

We meet Eddie Horniman as he inherits his father’s sizable estate only to discover it’s part of a marijuana empire. As you’d expect, Britain’s criminal underworld want a piece of the operation. Eddie tries to play the gangsters at their own game, but gets sucked into the world of criminality.

The trailer is trademark Guy Ritchie, who is famous for his punchy British gangster movies Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and Snatch. Indeed The Gentlemen shares much with Ritchie’s most famous work, including slow motion boxing and snapping, gunshot cuts. Expect plenty of violence and the odd swear word.

“While the characters in the upcoming TV show will be totally different from the movie, The Gentlemen will have all the same bite — along with a bunch of fresh tricks up its well-tailored sleeve, as the new teaser trailer reveals," Netflix's blurb reads.

“The White Lotus star Theo James leads The Gentlemen as the Duke of Halstead, Eddie Horniman, the estranged son of an English aristocrat who finds himself embroiled in a world of criminality — specifically career criminal Bobby Glass’ (Ray Winstone) industrial cannabis empire on the East End of London. Crawl’s Kaya Scodelario stars as Susie Glass, Bobby’s effortlessly fashionable and ruthless daughter who handles the day-to-day business of the drug operation. Ritchie is at the helm of the action drama as creator, co-writer, executive producer, and director of the first two episodes.”

All eight episodes of The Gentlemen premiere in March 2024.
