George Clooney has approved the idea of Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie potentially playing the parents of con man extraordinaire Danny Ocean in the forthcoming Ocean's 11 prequel.

Speaking to Variety at the premiere of his new movie The Boys in the Boat, Clooney reacted positively to the rumours that Gosling and Robbie will portray the parents of his Ocean's character in the upcoming prequel film, saying "it makes sense" for the Barbie costars to appear in those roles - even though it's not official.

"Margot Robbie's my mother? I've always thought that. And Ryan Gosling is my father," Clooney said of the casting in the new Ocean's flick, adding, "And when you think about it, it makes sense. Truly."

Robbie's name was first attached to the Ocean's 11 prequel in May 2022, with reports of Gosling's involvement surfacing a few months later in August 2022, shortly after the two actors wrapped production on Greta Gerwig's live-action Barbie movie, in which Robbie plays the titular iconic doll alongside Gosling's Ken.

And when you think about it, it makes sense. Truly.

While Gosling and Robbie's roles in the Ocean's prequel are yet to be confirmed, producer Josey McNamara has promised the film will "do right by the franchise." He also said the two stars are "wonderful together," proclaiming "the more projects, even outside of that, we can have them do would be amazing."

Jay Roach is helming the prequel, with Carrie Solomon in charge of writing the story. The film is said to be set in 1960s Europe, offering a new take on the franchise, which comprises the 2001 Ocean's 11 feature (a remake of the 1960 Rat Pack-led movie), two further entries in 2004 and 2007, and an all-female spinoff in 2018.

The early 2000s trilogy-starter saw Clooney star as Danny Ocean, an ex-con who teams up with his friend and partner in crime, Rusty Ryan (Brad Pitt), to propose a heist involving three Las Vegas casinos. The film was a certified box-office hit, grossing $450.7 million worldwide (more than five times the film's reported budget).
