Uncharted 2 is looking more and more likely as star Mark Wahlberg has been told to start preparing for the film.
Speaking to Screen Rant, Wahlberg suggested the film is still a while away but said he was told to start growing his moustache for his role as Victor Sullivan.
"Actually, I just got a call today that they got the script in," Wahlberg said. "I can't grow a real beard and moustache, but they said, 'Start growing your moustache. It's gonna take a while.' I'd be interested to see what the story's like, and where that adventure takes us. But I'm excited. I know audiences really loved the first one, so we'll see."
Uncharted 2, a sequel to the 2022 film starring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake in the leading role, hasn't been officially announced but Wahlberg again said in December 2023 the film has a finished script.
"I've heard lots of different ideas. I know somebody's written a script, and they're still working on it, and it would consist of having the moustache the whole entire time," Wahlberg said at the time. "Which completely makes sense; obviously, in that final scene, I have the moustache."
This final scene arrived as a reference to the original game series in which an older version of Sullivan dons a moustache, with the film series seemingly slowly but surely transitioning into the time period taking place in the games.
The first Uncharted movie was deemed a hit after reaching $139 at the global box office in its opening weekend. Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group Chairman and CEO Tom Rothman even said Uncharted was "a new hit movie franchise for the company".
