The final Deadpool & Wolverine trailer has revealed a character heavily rumored to appear in the hotly anticipated MCU movie: X-23.
In the trailer, below, we see Dafne Keen, fresh from playing a Jedi in Star Wars The Acolyte, reprise her role as X-23, this time giving a troubled Wolverine something of a pep talk.
“Whoever you think I am, you got the wrong guy,” Wolverine, played once again by Hugh Jackman, says. “You were always the wrong guy,” X-23 responds, before adding: “till you weren’t.”
X-23, real name Laura, appeared in the critically acclaimed Logan, once thought of as Hugh Jackman’s final Wolverine movie before the actor decided to give the character another shot for Deadpool & Wolverine. As a clone of Wolverine, X-23’s power set mirrors the X-Man's with retractable claws and a healing factor.
Keen was 11 when she played X-23 in 2017's Logan. Now 19, she portrays an older Laura who actually speaks.
The trailer doesn’t explain X-23’s appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine, but it no-doubt has to do with the time / multiverse shenanigans that form the basis of the movie. Other confirmed cameos include Aaron Stanford's Pyro and Tyler Mane's Sabretooth. There will be plenty more.
The final trailer also features never-before-seen shots, including a much better look at villain Cassandra Nova and Lady Deadpool. There’s a more serious tone this time around, in contrast to the meta jokes we’re used to from previous promos.
IGN has seen the first 35 minutes of Deadpool & Wolverine ahead of its July 26, 2024 release date, and said it left us with "genuine hope for the future of Marvel" thanks to it being "funny, crass, and violent" with "a weightier sense of purpose" underneath the gags.
