Ghostface has returned for yet another killing spree in Scream 6, and this time, he’s in the Big Apple. In the latest installment, the multi-identity masked killer returned to stalk the four survivors of Scream 5. Scream 6 opened to the best weekend box office of the series so far, cresting $44 million in its first few days.
With success like that, it’s no surprise that a new entry in the series is on the way. We don’t know much about Scream 7 but we know it’s happening, and involves a few creative change ups from the previous entries, including a new director. While you’re waiting, here’s where to watch every movie in the Scream franchise.
[Ed. note: This story contains spoilers for Scream 6.]
Will there be a Scream 7?
Yes, but the details are awfully complicated. When the movie was first announced, the director was set to be Christopher Landon, the fantastic writer and director behind horror-comedies like Happy Death Day. However, after Spyglass Media fired Scream (2022) and Scream VI star Melissa Barrera over posts about the Israel-Gaza conflict which the studio deemed antisemitic, Landon left the project.
With Landon out, the new director of the movie will be Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original Scream movie. The movie will be written by Guy Busick and James Vanderbilt, who also wrote the previous two movies.
When will Scream 7 release?
The movie is set for release on Feb. 27, 2026, and so far things seem to be on track for that date. We know the script was delivered to Neve Campbell around March 12, 2024, so by now the production is likely well on its way.
Is the Radio Silence team leaving the series?
Yes, the directors behind the last two Scream movies, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, have both moved on from the series.
Will Jenna Ortega be in Scream 7?
Nope, she left the series shortly after Barrera was fired, but her departure was reportedly due to scheduling reasons.
Who else will be in Scream 7?
This was a complicated and open question in the months following Berrera’s firing. However, in the intervening months, the cast list has taken shape, and it includes a lot of series alumni. Along with Neve Campbell, the new movie will bring back Matthew Lillard from the original movie, Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers, and Scott Foley, who is seemingly reprising his role as Roman Bridger despite the fact that he died in Scream 3. Returning from the previous two movies will be Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown, whose characters will probably not be making reference to the “Core Four,” given the acrimonious departure of at least one of the in-movie group’s members.
Along with those returning actors, the movie will introduce several new stars to the universe, including Joel McHale (Community), Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect), Celeste O’Connor (Madame Web), Isabel May (Alexa & Katie), Mckenna Grace (Annabelle Comes Homes), and more.
