Masters of the Air, a new World War 2 drama from the team behind Band of Brothers and The Pacific, has been given a release date, along with images offering a glimpse of what's to come.

AppleTV+ announced wartime series Masters of the Air, which serves as a companion to Band of Brothers and The Pacific, will premiere on its streaming platform on January 26, 2024. The company also shared eight images to provide a first look at the show, helmed by Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, and Gary Goetzman.

The photos (shared in the gallery below) show Barry Keoghan suited in his uniform as Lt Curtis Biddick alongside Austin Butler's Major Gale Cleven. They lead the talented ensemble cast that includes the likes of Callum Turner, Anthony Boyle, Nate Mann, Rafferty Law, Josiah Cross, Branden Cook, and Ncuti Gatwa.

Based on a true story of brotherhood and American airmen in WW2 Europe, Masters of the Air pulls from Donald L. Miller's book, Masters of the Air: America's Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany, which tells the story of the 100th Bombardment Group of the U.S. Army Air Forces during the war.

Masters of the Air has been in the works since October 2019a month before Apple TV+ even launched – and is billed as the first series to be produced by Apple Studios. Playtone is co-producing alongside Amblin Television, the same company that brought Band of Brothers and The Pacific to our screens via HBO.

Like those that came before it, Masters of the Air was originally an HBO project before Apple swooped in and made a deal with Spielberg's and Hanks' respective production companies to stream the miniseries exclusively on its AppleTV+ platform, along with a Greyhound sequel, which does not yet have a release date.
