James Cameron’s Avatar always had its critics and share of problems, but Disney found the perfect way to address them. It seems odd that with so many audiences insisting that the Avatar series is overrated, the franchise still manages to find success repeatedly. With only two movies released and a promising future, it raises questions about the allure of Pandora (beyond the Unobtainium) and what Disney and James Cameron did to successfully transform it into one of the most influential franchises in pop culture.
