It’s official: Jacob Elordi has joined Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein.
Hot off the heels of Saltburn, the Australian actor has landed the role of The Monster in the upcoming adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic 19th-century gothic horror.
He takes over the role from Spider-Man: No Way Home star Andrew Garfield, who recently left the project due to scheduling conflicts following the recent SAG-AFTRA actors’ strike.
Elordi joins an already impressive cast that includes Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein alongside Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz. They’ll be joined by new additions Felix Kammerer (who starred in Netflix’s hard-hitting adaptation of All Quiet on the Western Front), Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, and Christian Convery. That’s an impressive assortment of new faces for an already-stacked cast.
Del Toro’s take on the classic horror tale has been in the works for some time. An earlier version of the film would have featured Doug Jones as the Monster, and while there’s been no word yet on whether Jones will appear in the film, it could still be a possibility. However, it looks as though he won’t get the opportunity to play the most iconic of Hollywood monsters.
Elordi is perhaps best known for the role of Noah Flynn in The Kissing Booth trilogy as well as for playing Nate Jacobs in the HBO show, Euphoria. He also recently starred as Elvis Presley in the recent biopic, Priscilla.
IGN’s Saltburn review gave it 8/10 and said: “Aside from a few pacing issues, Saltburn delivers an uncompromising vision from Emerald Fennell, an Oscar-winning writer-director with a unique voice. It not only capitalizes on the kudos she received for Promising Young Woman but cements Barry Keoghan’s leading man status.”
