Although he likes to be known as a Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, there have been many instances throughout the hero's publishing history in which he has failed to live up to his sobriquet. While this has sometimes been on account of brainwashing, more often than not, the Web-Slinger is pushed into an evil realm by the horror that he faces as Spider-Man.
