Will Reeve, son of famed Superman actor Christopher Reeve, was nervous filming even a minor cameo for the rebooted DC Universe's Superman from James Gunn.
Speaking to TMZ, real life journalist Reeve said the creators of the DCU Superman were "so kind" to his family that he used a free day to film the cameo. Reeve said filming a single line for Superman was more nerve-wracking than doing full reports on TV for his normal job.
"I know the folks making the film, and they’ve been so kind to me and my family, and I had a free day, so we made it [happen]," Reeve said.
"I don’t know what I’m allowed to say. It was a really great experience; they were super friendly. It was quick, easy... I was actually more nervous doing that than I am whenever I’m on TV for my normal job because there was so many people around and I had to memorize one line, but still."
Reeve's father starred as the Man of Steel in four films and for almost a decade: from 1978's Superman to 1987's Superman 4: The Quest for Piece. DC Studios also included a computer-generated version of him in 2023's The Flash after he passed away in 2004, though there appears to be no bad blood between the creators and the Reeve family despite some fans taking offense.
The Superman mantle is now held by David Corenswet, with director and DC Studios co-CEO Gunn revealing a first look at the actor in costume in May 2024.
This iteration will be the first live action film in the DCU and also debut Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, María Gabriela as The Engineer, and more. Gunn has confirmed these actors will play the roles in other DCU projects, too.
Telling a story of a young superhero balancing his Kansan and Kryptonian heritage, Superman premieres July 11, 2025. Fans can get a first taste of the DCU in December 2024 though, through animated series Creature Commandos.
