The Last Drive-in with Joe Bob Briggs is one of the last holdouts of 'water cooler' TV for a niche community: horror fans and, more specifically, schlocky horror fans. A continuation of the variety show era, it mixes nostalgia, campiness, and immersive viewing (much like Svengoolie) as its hosts, Joe Bob Briggs himself and Darcy the Mail Girl, riff and introduce old-school drive-in style horror movies, with plenty of time for skits, songs, jokes, and more in between the beloved B-movies. By airing new episodes live on Shudder live in the age of streaming, it brings an otherwise sometimes scattered community that much more together and keeps the spirit of old-school horror alive; that of community.
