As understandably synonymous as Star Wars is movie theaters, the galaxy far, far away is well suited to comic books and other mediums, but that begs the question of canonicity for newcomers. Before the Disney acquisition of the IP from George Lucas, there was a wide array of supplemental material -- comics included -- that were set in what was known as the "Expanded Universe."
