Star Wars: Legion, the massed combat miniatures game from Atomic Mass Games, fell ever so slightly by the wayside following the launch of Star Wars: Shatterpoint in 2023. But with the miniatures skirmish game standing solidly on its own two feet, the Fantasy Flight Games imprint arrived at AdeptiCon last week with a flurry of announcements for Legion. If you’ve ever wanted to take a stab at Warhammer 40,000-style action set in a galaxy far, far away now is the time to jump in.

Legion launched with a formal escort from the 501st Legion at Gen Con in 2017 and pretty much took all the air out of the room at the nation’s largest tabletop gaming convention. But when it launched, I remarked that it felt like a half-measure — an incomplete offering at a relatively high price point. Atomic Mass has realigned the brand, and it now delivers relatively more bang for your buck.

Two new single-player starter sets are due out in the third quarter of the year, and they hearken back to that original launch with recognizable heroes from the original trilogy’s Rebellion and Empire factions. Then, over the holiday season comes two more single-player starters, one each for the Republic and the Separatists.

There’s a load more miniatures to gawp at in the official blog post, but by far the most exciting are the customizable commander characters. Now, for the first time ever, you can put a character of your own creation directly on the battlefield. It’s a very welcome bit of personality for an excellent miniatures game.
