Everyone’s favorite murderous, dancing robotic pre-teen is back in the first teaser trailer for M3GAN 2.0. Of course, the teaser includes a few new moves for M3GAN, as well as a bit of a new look. But the 45-second dance clip doesn’t tell us much about what the killer robot will be getting up to when her sequel arrives on June 27. Thankfully, the YouTube description that goes along with the teaser has a lot more details to give us a preview.

[Ed. note: This post will include the basic set up of M3GAN 2.0, so if you want to go into the movie totally fresh, it’s probably best to just watch the teaser without reading more.]

Here’s what the YouTube description has to say:

Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous (and impeccably choreographed) rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GAN’s creator Gemma (Allison Williams) has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules.

Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno; Ahsoka, Pacific Rim: Uprising), the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelia’s self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans. Or in keeping them around.

With the future of human existence on the line, Gemma realizes that the only option is to resurrect M3GAN (Amie Donald, voiced by Jenna Davis) and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger, and more lethal. As their paths collide, the original A.I bitch is about to meet her match.

In other words, M3GAN 2.0 is taking the classic path that murderous robots like the Terminator walked before her: she’s becoming good in the sequel. But while her turn toward the heroic isn’t particularly surprising, it does seem like a fun direction to take the character, particularly given how much audiences enjoyed her the first time around when she was the movie’s villain. Letting her continue her sassy streak and horrifying violence to protect the girl she almost killed the first time around seems like a natural evolution for the franchise.

Along with bringing back the characters that survived the first movie, M3GAN 2.0 is also a reunion for the original movie’s creative team, bringing back writer Akela Cooper, director Gerard Johnstone, and producers James Wan and Jason Blum.

Megan 2.0 will be in theaters June 27.
