In 2016, Harry Potter fans were excited to learn that there was a magical school in North America called Ilvermorny. As detailed in J.K. Rowling's writings about the Wizarding World, Ilvermorny was established several centuries after Hogwarts and followed its example in many ways. One such instance was Ilvermorny's founders deciding to divide the school into four houses: Horned Serpent, Wampa, Thunderbird and Pukwudgie. Although they're not truly meant to be analogs of Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff and Slytherin, readers have been comparing them ever since, trying to pair up the different Ilvermorny houses with a corresponding Hogwarts house.
