The return of Star Wars' Rey Skywalker always felt like an inevitability due to her being a Palpatine. The focus of her first three films was squarely on the characters, both old and new. Her next story -- which is a film set in what Lucasfilm calls "the New Jedi Order" era -- seems to indicate what it will be. Rey Skywalker is reestablishing the Jedi Order in the galaxy, but is creating this new galactic institution the biggest challenge the movie faces? There's a bigger picture this film has to paint. One fair critique of the sequel trilogy was how much of it felt like remixed moments from past trilogies. Yet, this is part of the Star Wars storytelling DNA.
