The character of Valak, the demon nun from the upcoming sequel The Nun 2, has been a formidable opponent to paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) throughout the Conjuring film series. They first encountered the malevolent entity in The Conjuring 2 (2016). The character has since gone on to have its own prequel film series, The Nun (2018). The film was set in 1952 explored the origins of the nightmarish nun and its place in the wider Conjuring universe.
