The DC Extended Universe has finally reached a brutal conclusion. After a 2023 that included box-office disappointments like The Flash, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and Blue Beetle, the company is shifting toward a new, hopefully brighter era. Led by Guardians of the Galaxy mastermind James Gunn, projects like Superman: Legacy, Batman's The Brave and the Bold and more will look to course correct the primarily comic-based company after a decade of missteps within the Zack Snyder-defined era of films. But DC's bold new direction won't hit the big screens until 2025. For now, the only movie starring the company's characters released this year will be the insular Joker: Folie a Deux, leaving most of 2024 in the hands of smaller characters and the small screen.
