Danielle Brooks has opened up about her time filming the "magical" Minecraft movie and teased a potential collaboration between her and Jack Black for its theme song.
Speaking to Variety, Brooks remained vague about her filming experience and what the film will eventually look like but did assure "fans will not be disappointed". She also made clear she's open to staying on for the long haul if Warner Bros. Discovery decides to create a Minecraft Cinematic Universe.
"I don’t know how to play the game but I know the world and the movie is pretty magical," she said. "It’s so lifelike. I don’t know how much I can share, but I do know fans will not be disappointed with the world they’ve created."
As for the theme song, Brooks said she won't be the main voice behind it, which will seemingly fall on Black's shoulders (perhaps especially after his viral hit Peaches from the Super Mario Bros. movie), but she does want to feature on it.
"No, but I’m hopefully going to be singing in it," Brooks said when asked if she was leading the song. "You can’t do a movie with Danielle Brooks and Jack Black and not have us do something. I’m having a good time."
Details on the Minecraft movie are still few and far between but several cast members are locked in, including Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, Jennifer Coolidge, and Sebastian Eugene Hansen. Brooks role is unconfirmed, while Black will reportedly play protagonist Steve.
Besides the cast and an April 4, 2025 premiere date, practically nothing else is known. Director Jared Hess has vowed not to have an "ugly Sonic" situation though.
