During the Opening Night Live showcase for Gamescom 2024, the upcoming survival MMO action game Dune Awakening had a lengthy gameplay walkthrough trailer. It's highly anticipated given it's set in the Dune universe, but also because it has left a good first impression when we saw Dune Awakening in March of this year.
The new gameplay trailer showed the character creator and early goings of assaulting deserter bases, climbing cliffs, and basic strategies such as melee combat and the shooting mechanics. We also saw what it's like to build your own bases and the advantages of it like using blood purifiers to cleanse enemy blood to extract water which is key for survival.

Additionally, you can save blueprints of your structures and sell them to other players. While there is a guild system where you'll be able to group up with hundreds of other players, you will also engage in story content - for example, going to Harko Village and pledging to the Harkonnen is part of Dune Awakening.
You'll also go beyond the Shield Wall to hunt for spice, but this is where you'll expect to fight other players over that spice in spicy PvP battles. Arrakis is a dangerous place so you can also expect to encounter sandworms regularly while also managing water resources and navigating the harsh environment.
Dune Awakening will be available starting sometime in 2025 on PC. For more on the big stories coming out of Gamescom 2024, check out our roundup of everything announced during Opening Night Live.
