Airbnb unveiled a new line of specialty Icons hotels that will let visitors step foot into the worlds of their favorite films and TV shows, such as Disney’s Up! house and X-Men 97's mansion.
During Airbnb’s 2024 Summer Release Event, the vacation company revealed that it was able to transform a house that looked exactly like Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters in New Castle, New York, into a cartoon-like experience.
Airbnb X-Mansion experience will let visitors experience the following:
- Train in The War Room with professional stunt coordinators
- Try on Cerebro’s helmet
- Create potions in Beast’s lab
- Recreate Wolverine’s iconic photograph meme
- Receive a diploma from the Institute for higher learning in Professor X's study
To recreate X-Men 97’s mansion, Airbnb collaborated with Microsoft to repurpose its 30-year-old operating systems to make working boomboxes and painstakingly handpainted every prop and room in the house to feel like visitors are walking through the 2D animated world. What’s more, each prop in Airbnb’s X-Men experience took upwards of an hour to paint by hand.

As noted, Airbnb also gave folks a preview of what its Up House Icons experience will look like. Airbnb’s Up house, located in Abiquiu, New Mexico, was built from scratch, and every detail in the home, including its color palette, proportionally accurate chairs, and movie-accurate Adventure book, was hand-painted. The 40,0000-pound house is also attached to a crane that suspends it 50ft in the air.
Here's a look at Airbnb's Up house.
Much like with Airbnb’s past Icon experiences — which included recreations of Barbie’s Malibu DreamHouse, Shrek’s Swamp, and The Last Blockbuster — users will be able to book their icon experiences on the company’s website. Airbnb’s X-Mansion experience—which its website hosted by Jubilee—costs $97 per guest and will allow eight guests to sleep in four bedrooms with two bathrooms. Airbnb’s Up House can be requested today as well for free.
