In 2012, a little film based on a YA book series by Suzanne Collins was released to the world. The Hunger Games became a worldwide cinematic phenomenon and catapulted its leading actress, Jennifer Lawrence, into full-on stardom. Now, over 11 years since the first film was released, the fifth movie in the franchise is upon us. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is set years before the first film and depicts the 10th annual Hunger Games. Thmoview film follows a young Coriolanus Snow and showcases his descent from an ambitious pupil to the tyrannical president of Panem. The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes starts extremely strong, with a solid and memorable first hour and a half. However, the film is overlong and attempts to pull things together with a lengthy epilogue that will make the audience question if any of this has a reason to exist.
