Science fiction -- and Star Trek in particular -- loves a good AI-running-amok story. The idea of humanity creating its own doom through a robot or similar creation is too powerful to ignore for the final frontier. That started with Star Trek: The Original Series and has continued in almost every entry in the franchise, including latter-day series. Even Star Trek: Lower Decks plays into the trend with a trio of potentially genocidal computer-based organisms currently up to no good.
