Warning: Spoilers follow for Episode 8 of The Acolyte.

The final episode of The Acolyte featured two major Star Wars cameos, prompting some fans to call for a Season 2 renewal to explore their stories further.

Episode 8 of The Acolyte included many characters that audiences have come to know and love (including appearances from Bazil and Pip). There were, however, a few surprises along the way, including a cameo from a mysterious figure who bore a striking resemblance to Darth Plagueis and another of the familiar silhouette of Yoda.

Given when The Acolyte takes place, Star Wars fans had long speculated that the series could introduce Palpatine's master, Darth Plagueis, with many wondering if he may have a connection to the witches of Brendok — but it wasn't until the final episode that viewers got a glimpse of a cloaked character presumed to be Plagueis.

"This will be a day long remembered. It has seen the live action debut of Darth Plagueis the Wise," one person wrote on Reddit, to which someone else remarked: "I hope we get a Season 2 just for him."

Another mic drop moment came towards the end of the episode when Vernestra Rwoh entered a chamber to greet the legendary Jedi Master Yoda, saying: "Sorry to disturb you, master. We need to talk." While fans didn't see the character from Vernestra's viewpoint, they were thrilled to see High Republic Yoda show up.

"Hopefully they flesh this out in Season 2, but I think this actually adds to Yoda's character whether intended or not," someone wrote on Reddit. "I think it would add much more depth to his despair and exile after Anakin's slaughter of the Jedi."

Yoda's brief appearance was all the more surprising because showrunner Leslye Headland previously asserted that The Acolyte would not feature cameos from other Star Wars films and TV shows. Those comments, however, started to unravel when an unexpected prequel trilogy character turned up in the fourth episode of the series.

Now that Season 1 is over, speculation has started over whether these cameos could form part of the foundation for a potential Season 2. Headland has already said she has "four or five major mysteries" she would like to touch on if The Acolyte receives a renewal, but only time will tell whether she gets that opportunity.
