Comic book movies have been going strong for over a decade, and there's never been more projects in the genre across streaming and in theaters to seek out. However, superhero fatigue continues to be a topic of discussion and has never felt more real than now based on the poor box office performances of the last three DC films and the poor reception to Marvel's recent work, which would've seemed unthinkable a few years ago. Before the Marvel Cinematic Universe, plenty of comic book movies were standalone with auteur directors like Tim Burton, Christopher Nolan, Sam Raimi, Ang Lee and others stepping in to deliver unique takes on iconic characters.
