Magic: The Gathering is collaborating with Bethesda's Fallout franchise to release a set of Commander decks, Wizards of the Coast has announced.

The undisclosed number of decks launch in March 2024 and are seemingly themed after factions of the Wasteland (such as the Brotherhood of Steel and the Railroad) and include bloodthirsty raiders, towering super mutants, irradiated monsters, and deadly retro-futurist robots.

Unlike other crossover sets — like the recent Lord of the Rings release that contained a $2 million card — Fallout won't be released in booster packs but is instead restricted to Commander decks: ready-to-play starter products for Magic: The Gathering's casual format that don't require additional purchases.

Wizards of the Coast failed to reveal a specific release date, which characters or games would be included, or how many decks would be released, though crossovers usually include four.

"One thing that has remained constant throughout our 30-year history is how much our players love Magic," said global play lead Bill Rose of the announcement. "As we look to the future, one of our guiding principles is to continue to curate new and memorable gameplay experiences, whether you’ve been playing Magic for a couple of months, years, decades, or anything in between."

Fallout joins other gaming franchises such as Final Fantasy and Assassin's Creed in collaborating with Magic: The Gathering, though Wizards of the Coast is seemingly open to crossovers of all kinds as the likes of Doctor Who, Warhammer 40K, and Stranger Things have already appeared.
