X-Men: First Class director Matthew Vaughn is bigging up the impact upcoming superhero movie Deadpool 3 will have on the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While promoting his Henry Cavill-starring film Argylle, Vaughn discussed Deadpool 3 and its starring duo Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman on BroBible’s Post-Credit podcast.

“The few snippets that I know about Deadpool vs. Wolverine — or Wolverine vs. Deadpool, I’m sure that argument between Ryan and Hugh is happening as we speak — are unbelievable,” he said.

“That’s going to be the jolt... the Marvel universe is about to have a jolt of them and it’s going to bring that body back to life... I think Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are about to save the whole Marvel universe.”

Vaughn added that as “a genuine fan of the X-Men, all I want is for the movies to be as good as they should be.”

Deadpool 3, out July 26, 2024, is the only MCU movie to premiere in 2024, and releases during a troubling time for Marvel and the superhero genre. Reynolds of course reprises his role as Deadpool, with Jackman once again playing Wolverine, this time wearing his fan-favorite yellow and blue costume made famous by the character's design from the X-Men comics.

Last month, IGN reported on what the experts are saying about the MCU's future after the Jonathan Majors verdict. Marvel Studios cut ties with the actor, who played various iterations of Kang the Conqueror in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Loki after he was found guilty of one count of assault and one count of harassment on December 18, 2023.

And this month, The Marvels became the lowest-grossing MCU movie of all time, finishing its theatrical run with a worldwide box office gross of around $205 million. That puts it roughly on par with DC's Birds of Prey, which was considered a bomb despite making back more than twice its budget.
