The return of Sith Lord Sheev Palpatine never sat well with many Star Wars fans. The one-time Galactic Emperor was the central villain in 2019's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. His resurrection, however, came across as a contrived deus ex machina to discontented viewers, and some felt Palpatine's return undermined the Skywalker saga's conclusion. The Emperor was long presumed dead in canon before the franchise's final and most recent film. But Ahsoka has subtly brought that longstanding presumption into question.
