Spider-Man star Tom Holland is returning to London's West End this year for a new stage adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
Holland announced the news on social media, sharing a link to the official website for the Romeo and Juliet stage show, where he is credited to play Romeo Montague in a "pulsating new vision of Shakespeare's immortal tale of wordsmiths, rhymers, lovers and fighters" from visionary theatre director Jamie Lloyd.
The new production of Romeo and Juliet will enjoy a limited 12-week run at the Duke of York Theatre in central London from May 11, per Time Out, with tickets on sale from Feb. 13. There is no word yet on who will star as Romeo's star-crossed lover Juliet Capulet, or any information about the show's supporting cast members.
Holland made his stage debut in the West End production of Billy Elliot: The Musical, claiming the title role for its 2009 and 2010 run before establishing himself as a film actor, with notable roles in The Impossible, In the Heart of the Sea, and Lost City of Z. More recently, he starred in Uncharted opposite Mark Wahlberg.
Of course, he is also world-famous for playing Spider-Man in the MCU, starting with an appearance in 2016's Captain America: Civil War before leading his first solo movie as the web-slinger in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming. He followed up with the sequels Far From Home (2019) and No Way Home (2021).
Last year, Holland announced he was taking a break from acting after starring in the Apple TV+ series The Crowded Room, a psychological thriller he also executive produced. He said he would be "taking a year off" as "a result of how difficult the show was" for him in the taxing role as troubled young man Danny Sullivan.
