In the history of the franchise, Star Trek: Voyager is a very important series. Debuting as the flagship program on the then-new United Paramount Network (UPN) in 1995, it was the first series to cast a woman as the ship's captain. Captain Kathryn Janeway is easily in the conversation for best Starfleet captain, but unlike James T. Kirk or Jean-Luc Picard, she wasn't particularly happy occupying the center seat. In a way, Captain Janeway is the most like Kirk, at least in how she approaches command. She is strict when she needs to be but will give her officers leeway if needed. She is committed to Starfleet ideals but is not afraid to make hard decisions.
