This particular LEGO Mario set is made for the 18+ age group and almost never goes on sale. But thanks to October Prime Day, this set, which typically costs $200, is on sale at Amazon for $139.99 (see it at Amazon). The only catch is you have to be a Prime member (sign up here).
LEGO Super Mario 64 Question Mark Block for $139.99
I have this set myself and built it over the course of a week or two. It’s a really clever build, in that you can display it as a simple question mark block like any you’d find in basically all the mainline Mario games. But if you look a little deeper, you’ll find lots of Mario 64 references.
The big thing you can do is flip out a series of micro-biomes from the Nintendo 64 game. There’s Princess Peach’s castle; Bob-omb’s Battlefield (the first level of Mario 64); the icy Cool, Cool Mountain; and buried under them all is the fiery Lethal Lava Trouble. Folding these levels out and in is an impressive feat of engineering, and I can’t even imagine how difficult it was to design. Also included are adorable microfigures of characters including Mario, Yoshi, Peach, King Bob-omb, and Chain Chomp.
If you happen to have one of the Mario, Peach, or Luigi figures from a LEGO Super Mario Starter Set, you can use the figure to scan tags hidden throughout the set to play a little game. It’s not required to have fun with the set by any means, but if you have the figure, it’s worth a look.
This is just one of many LEGO Prime Day deals you can get right now at Amazon. A whole lot of other sets are on sale, including more Mario sets, plus Sonic, Animal Crossing, Star Wars, Harry Potter, and a whole lot more. And if you're a Target Circle member, check out Target's LEGO sale that's going on now too.
