Despite achieving the kind of pop culture ubiquity few television series enjoy in the 21st Century, Game of Thrones didn't finish very strongly. Many choices made by the storytellers felt inauthentic or downright foolish in the eyes of passionate fans. One specific change came to the character of Tyrion Lannister who fell in love with Queen Daenerys Targaryen, Mother of Dragons, when he met her. However, rather than the kind of romantic love he had for Shae, his adoration for the Queen of the Andals and the First Men was more akin to religious fervor than base attraction. While George R. R. Martin shared his broad strokes ideas for the end of his A Song of Ice and Fire book series, the show wasn't the same after it outpaced the books.
