The X-Men exist to defend mutant rights, and that has proven to be a tough job. Humanity is constantly out to destroy mutantkind, creating all kinds of technology and weapons made specifically to wipe them off the planet. Humans and mutants seem to mix like oil and water. This makes sense to an extent, because mutants are the next evolution of humanity, which always spell doom for the weaker species. However, mutants aren't the only superpowered people in the Marvel Universe. There are many superheroes and supervillains on Earth who aren't mutants, yet they aren't treated with the same fear.
