Tactical RPGs have carved out a niche for themselves in the popular RPG genre. They eschew the trappings of JRPGs or Western RPGs and follow their own path. They provide a hybrid experience with the turn-based tactics genre. Players control a small group of combatants, trying to outmaneuver and outgun their opponents. However, their soldiers are characters they've created or built themselves.
